High schools report two GPAs. The unweighted one caps every class at 4.0. The weighted one adds a bonus for rigor — +0.5 for Honors, +1.0 for AP or IB — so it can reach 5.0. Colleges usually look at both, and many recalculate to their own scale.

Enter your classes once. With weighting on, Honors adds 0.5 and AP/IB adds 1.0 to each class's grade points before averaging. Turn weighting off and every class is capped at 4.0. Knowing both matters because application portals ask for different ones, and some colleges strip weighting to compare students fairly.
Many high schools give every year-long class equal weight (one credit each), in which case GPA is a straight average. Others use half-credits for semester courses or different credit values — enter whatever your transcript shows in the credits field and the calculator weights them correctly.
Unweighted, a 3.5+ is strong and 4.0 is a straight-A record. Weighted GPAs run higher because of the Honors/AP bonus, so a competitive weighted GPA is often 4.0–4.5+.
Usually yes — most schools average every graded class, including electives and PE, into the GPA. Pass/fail classes typically don't count. Check your school's policy for exceptions.
