Roll this term's grades into your running total. Enter your current GPA and credits earned so far, add this semester's courses, and see your new cumulative GPA.
Your cumulative GPA is the credit-weighted average of every course you've taken, across all semesters — not just the current one. To update it you don't re-enter years of coursework: you fold the new term into your existing record.
Enter your current cumulative GPA and the total credits it's based on, then add this term's courses below. The calculator combines them the correct way — by quality points and credits, not by averaging two GPAs (which would be wrong whenever the terms carry different credit loads).
Averaging a 3.8 term GPA with a 3.2 prior GPA only gives 3.5 if both cover the same number of credits. Almost always they don't. The right method converts each back to quality points (GPA × credits), adds the points and the credits separately, then divides. This calculator does that automatically once you fill in your prior GPA and credits.
Both are on your latest transcript or student portal: the cumulative GPA is usually printed at the bottom, and total credits (sometimes called earned or attempted hours) sits alongside it. Enter those two numbers once and add only the new term's courses.
It's the credit-weighted average of every graded course across all your terms, versus a semester GPA which covers only one term. Schools report the cumulative figure as your official standing.
Multiply your current GPA by your credits so far to get quality points, do the same for the new term, add both totals, then divide by the combined credits. Enter the two prior numbers above and the calculator handles it.
A failed course usually counts as 0.0 in your cumulative GPA until it's retaken. Repeat policies vary — some schools replace the grade, others average both attempts — so check your registrar's rule.
