Free online GPA calculator. Add your courses, grades, and credit hours to get your GPA on the 4.0 scale — weighted or unweighted — then put it on your resume.

Canonical: https://www.prezumi.com/tools/gpa-calculator

Add each course's grade and credit hours to get your GPA on the standard US 4.0 scale — switch on weighting to count Honors and AP classes.

Your GPA — grade point average — is the credit-weighted average of your course grades on a 0.0–4.0 scale. It isn't a simple average: a five-credit class moves your GPA far more than a one-credit one, which is why you enter credit hours alongside each grade.

Enter your courses below and the calculator updates as you type. Leave the Honors/AP weighting off for a standard unweighted GPA, or switch it on to add the usual bonus (Honors +0.5, AP/IB +1.0) that most high schools apply.

How GPA is calculated

Each letter grade maps to grade points: A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, and so on down to F = 0.0. Multiply each course's points by its credit hours to get quality points, add those up across every course, then divide by the total credit hours. That credit-weighting is the whole point — it's why one bad grade in a heavy class hurts more than one in a light elective.

Weighted vs unweighted

An unweighted GPA caps every course at 4.0 regardless of difficulty. A weighted GPA rewards rigor: an Honors class adds 0.5 and an AP or IB class adds 1.0, so an A in an AP course counts as 5.0. Colleges see both, and many recalculate to their own scale anyway — so it's worth knowing both numbers. Toggle the weighting above to compare.

Worked example

  • Calculus (4 credits), A → 4.0 × 4 = 16.0 quality points
  • English (3 credits), B+ → 3.3 × 3 = 9.9 quality points
  • Chemistry (4 credits), A− → 3.7 × 4 = 14.8 quality points
  • Total: 40.7 quality points ÷ 11 credits = 3.70 GPA

Frequently asked questions

Is a 4.0 scale the same everywhere?

The 4.0 scale is the US standard, but the exact letter-to-point mapping varies slightly by school (some count A+ as 4.3, some don't use minus grades). This calculator uses the most common mapping with A+ capped at 4.0.

How do credit hours affect my GPA?

Grades are weighted by credit hours, so a grade in a 4-credit class counts four times as much as the same grade in a 1-credit class. Always enter the credits — leaving them out gives a plain average, not a GPA.

What counts as a good GPA?

Roughly: 3.5+ is strong, 3.0–3.5 is solid, and below 3.0 may need context on applications. Employers and grad schools read it alongside your field, course rigor, and trajectory.

Should I put my GPA on my resume?

List it while it's recent and strong — generally within about ten years of graduating, and typically 3.5 or above. Use the button below to add it to an ATS-friendly resume with the formatting done for you.
