The Indian CGPA is the cumulative grade point average used by CBSE and most Indian universities, reported on a 10-point scale. Under the common CBSE convention an approximate percentage is the CGPA multiplied by 9.5, though individual boards and universities publish their own tables. A 6.0 is usually the pass mark, 7.5 and above is a first class, and 8.5+ is an excellent record.
US letter grades run from A down to F, usually with plus and minus modifiers, and each letter maps to a fixed grade point. An A is 4.0 and roughly 93 to 100 percent, a B is 3.0, a C is 2.0, and an F is a fail below about 60 percent.
