The Indian CGPA is the cumulative grade point average used by CBSE and most Indian universities, reported on a 10-point scale. Under the common CBSE convention an approximate percentage is the CGPA multiplied by 9.5, though individual boards and universities publish their own tables. A 6.0 is usually the pass mark, 7.5 and above is a first class, and 8.5+ is an excellent record.
The ECTS grade is a European scale that ranks students relative to their cohort rather than against a fixed percentage. An A is roughly the top 10 percent of those who passed, a B the next 25 percent, and so on down to E at the pass boundary. Because it is defined by rank, an ECTS grade does not map cleanly onto a percentage or GPA and is best read as a band.
